Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points.
- If any research datasets accompany the submitted article, the author(s) confirm that they are made available and are deposited in an appropriate repository (see our Publishing Policy for further details).
- The submission file is both in Word and PDF document file format.
- The author(s) agree(s) to the terms outlined in our Terms of Service, Publishing Policy and consent(s) to our Privacy Policy.
- The author(s) agree(s) to the copyright terms under the Copyright Notice and confirm(s) having read and explicitly agreed to the Publishing Agreement.
- Submit all figures as separate, high-resolution files in an appropriate format (e.g., TIFF or JPEG), suitable for publication.
Articles
The Article section publishes original scientific papers presenting novel research in the fields of natural sciences related to Mediterranean environments and natural-history topics, with particular emphasis on Mediterranean marine and terrestrial biodiversity, biology and ecology, ichthyology, geology and palaeontology, Mediterranean agriculture, including olive cultivation, nature conservation, pollution and environmental protection, physical geography, and related disciplines. Submissions should be based on original data, employ sound scientific methodology, and provide a clear contribution to current knowledge. Articles are subject to single-blind peer review.
Review
The Review section publishes comprehensive, critical, and up-to-date syntheses of topics relevant to the scope of the journal. Review papers should summarize and evaluate the current state of knowledge, identify research gaps, discuss emerging trends, and provide perspectives for future research. Reviews are expected to offer critical analysis rather than a simple compilation of published literature and are subject to single-blind peer review.
Report
The Report section includes contributions of professional, historical, and informational value that are of interest to the scientific community but do not constitute original research articles. This section welcomes In Memoriam contributions, reports on the activities of scientific institutions, societies, and organizations, reports from conferences, congresses, workshops, and scientific meetings, book reviews, reviews of scientific publications or exhibitions, anniversary commemorations, and other reports documenting events and achievements relevant to the natural sciences. Contributions published in this section are evaluated editorially and are not subject to external peer review.

When submiting the article, the authors agree to the copyright terms of the journal.

Publishing agreement
The authors undertake that the article is their copyrighted work, that they have all rights related to the content of the article, as well as for publishing any graphic or other material, that the article is not subject of a peer review process in another journal and that the article has not yet been published and will not be published elsewhere. The Editorial Board reviews articles against plagiarism.
The article submitted can be written in Slovene, Italian, Croatian or English language. If you would like to publish the article in another language, please consult the Editorial Board. The author should ensure that their contribution meets acceptable standards of the language. If needed, the Editorial Board has the right to additionally edit the language ofthe article. The articles should not be longer than 48,000 characters (without spaces).
Copyright and Open Access Policy
The author retains copyright and grants the publisher a non-exclusive, worldwide license to publish the article in all formats and media under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license. The publisher is authorized to make editorial changes necessary for publication (e.g., proofreading, layout, formatting), provided the intellectual content remains unchanged. The journal provides immediate open access (diamond open access) to the scientific content under the license Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). Users may read, download, copy, adapt, distribute, print, search, or link to articles published on the Website and use them for any lawful purpose without prior permission of the publisher or author.
